Food!

Filed under: Healthy Weight Loss For Men by:

Well the Holliday season is upon us!

While I enjoy the festivities and lights… Thanksgiving, Christmas and gatherings with friends remind me of something I love…FOOD.

Iv’e been fairly good about eating and yet I’ve allowed life, travel etc, to interfere with progress. I’m still down by 35 pound from where I started this process which is awesome. And yet getting through this plateau is tough.

I’ve tried new digestive enzymes, blockers, seratonin boosters etc with no effect. Hmm.

So yesterday I decided it’s time to do a quick limeaid fast (before Christmas) and see if I can drop below 235. (8-10Lbs) . I’m doing this becuase I really like food and I want to relax about it during Christmas and New Years.

So I’m going to stay positive. (Which I usually do anyway because I don’t like the alternative)

I’ve posted some new motivating pictures on my dream board, found some new recipes and engaged some new friends that eat only RAW foods. (If you live in So Cal try Au Lac in Fountain Valley…Awesome RAW and Vegan)

I’ve started making my own ice cream from Cashews and sometimes from Coconut milk. Keep a regular supply of Chocolate Bliss on hand and asked my Kids to remind me when they see me eating things that don’t support my goal of reaching 220 Lbs.

And it’s working! I’ve lost 4 pounds in the last 5 days as a result of just getting concious about what goes in. (I put on a few while attending an awesome 5 day conference hosted by Eben Pagan and Wyatt Woodsmall on the Clare Graves model of Sprial Dynamics and societal development.)

But I also had a really nice salmon dinner with wine (and a friend) on Friday night and on Sunday attended a Christmas DInner in Newport Beach where we had bacon wrapped shrimp, calamari, bruschetta, and artichoke dip …along with some nice red wine…as appetizers…and then moved on to a main course of French Onion Soup, Filet Mignon with potatoes, onions and artichoke in a slightly sweet demiglace sauce…followed by Tiramisu. (originally I thought I’d like the Apple Streudle…and my date thought she would like the Tiramisu…we traded.)

The reason I tell you that (oh… did I forget to mention the Espressso) is to let you know that you CAN eat AND shed pounds if you follow up a great meal with smart choices in the days following. (This morning my son blended up (invented) a new smoothy with celery, limes, lemons, jalapeno, ginger, berries, water, ice and a little agave syrup…YUM). Yesterday I had limeaid and a small bowl of chili for lunch.

I think sometime we put too much emphasis on losing pounds and by trying to hard, focus on the wrong thing. Being focused on weight seems to reinforce having it. I’m switching to focus on health, fitness and eating better while continuing to look for an excercise routine, sytems etc. that notivates me to keep doing it.

For some…it’s excersise video’s like this one. (That’s one of my clients and I am an affiliate) for others it’s just getting in 10,000 steps per day. (which reminds me … I have not replaced the pedometer I lost in the ocean off catalina this summer and i need to do that.)

Anyway…you can do it. You can find a system that will work for you. Just remember to be kind to yourself and stay with it.

Plateau’s

Filed under: Healthy Weight Loss For Men by:

It’s been quite a while since my last post. Mostly because my weight loss has stalled. I’ve lost between 40 and 43 Lbs depending on the day.
Still a great effort since March yet not satisfying because what’s hanging around is hanging at the middle.

In my last post I mentioned setting conditions for success. So in assessing what I can do to make my weight loss inevitable… I’ve done 3 things:
1. I’ve re-taken the Saliva and blood tests to see what progress has been made with my body chemistry
2. I’ve approached a trainer to work on an exercise routine that works for my schedule and my dislike for weights and gym’s. (We’ll be using bands)
3. I looked at what I stopped taking in my supplement routine and am adding back in some of them (1 at a time) to see if I can isolate the issue. I’ll be starting by re-introducing the HCL supplement I was on.

I’ll keep you posted.

P.S. I’m setting my new condition for success to get me below 217 Lbs which will translate to a 60+ Lb loss overall!

Setting Conditions for Success

Filed under: Healthy Weight Loss For Men by:

I’m getting ready to head out for my morning walk. Usually 2500 – 4500 steps according to my pedometer…which by the way is at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean somewhere near Catalina Island! More about that later.

I’ve excited to say that I’ve passed another milestone having lost just over 40 Lbs! My energy is higher than i’ve known in a long time and it’s created a new challenge. My clothes no longer fit.

When I started my journey i set up some conditions so that getting to my goal of losing 50 pounds had to happen. I hired Rose Cole to help me with my health and nutrition, I started walking nearly everyday. I keep track of my progress. My family is involved and can see my weight written in the log book daily. AND I changed what I was eating.

Some of the conditions were challenging. Now they seem normal and I know I’ll lose MORE than 50 Lbs. I also have tools and knowledge to be able to stay healthy and fit.

I’ve said it before…if I can do this you can do this.

**–**

Early on I mentioned having the energy and health to do more with my kids. That’s what happened to my pedometer. I decided it would be OK to wear it while paddling sea kayaks in the harbor at Avalon, on Catalina Island. 3 of the boys and I went over by boat last Saturday. We had a blast and paddled around for nearly 2 hours. Something I would not have been able to do just 3 months ago.

Losing the weight and the pedometer ARE worth the price.

239 & Fathers Day

Filed under: Healthy Weight Loss For Men by:

It took a while.

I finally broke through the plateau. I broke through 240 down to 239 Lbs this morning! I’ve been bouncing up and down in weight between 242 and 245 Lbs for a full month. Very frustrating.

OF course some of it was my own doing. I went out to several business dinners and did not watch what I was eating. I had a slice of “Vinnie No Neck” pizza at Mama Lucca’s. (They make a Extra large pizza size calzone and stuff it with meat and cheese) It was great.

In reality holding a 3 Lb range during a plateau isn’t bad. It’s just that now that I’ve lost 38 + Lbs on my quest to lose 50 Lbs I’m impatient and don’t like waiting. Plus, I want to fit easily into my new size 34 jeans. I can button them…but 5 more Lbs will really help.

It’s father’s day and 3 of my boys are here with me in southern California. Yesterday we raced go carts. What a blast. The great thing about losing weight is I actually fit in the go cart seat which I could not have done easily 3 months ago and I’ve got the energy to keep up. Andrew (21) did take me out of 1st place. (I got 2nd) …but he has a weight advantage of over 100 Lbs!

Even better news… two of the boys jumped right in this week to a limeade cleanse. Ben (14) did it for 3 days and Sam (17) has been at it for 7 days now. I’m very proud of him and he’s lost 11 Lbs. Now I get to work with them on changing their eating habits and eliminating all the bad calories they take in.

Getting healthy and sharing that health with my family is an awesome feeling. I highly recommend it.

All the resources I’ve used are on this page. Start with Rose Cole.

I walk almost every day, do about 30 sit ups on an exercise ball and do 20- 30 push ups. That’s it. No Weights. No Gym membership. No bicycle, treadmill or elliptical.

If I can do this. You can do this!

Diet? What Diet?

Filed under: Healthy Weight Loss For Men by:

I was asked recently what “Diet” I was on to be able to lose 35 Lbs in 75 days.

My answer? “What Diet”

The process of changing my life and my thinking about my own health and working with Rose Cole has simply created a whole new way of eating.

Diets are those things we read about and “try”.

This is about setting up the conditions I needed in my life so that getting to my ideal weight is inevitable.

Really. This is how it works.

I chose to complete a master cleanse and eat “clean” meals for 31 days. After that it just didn’t make sense to go back to the old habits.

So the daily conditions are set for me to reach my goal. I blog here about it telling the world that I AM losing 50 Lbs. I have a partner that I check in with every day. I simply tell him that my workout is done and that my morning walk is done.

He busts my chops (nicely) if I skip either one. Sometimes I even check in on the weekends.

I weigh myself, I use my pedometer. And I keep a log.

The food in my house is good for me. Including the snacks.

Making the choice to be healthy is up to you. Setting the conditions for inevitable success are for you to define for what will work in your own life and with your own lifestyle.

Creative Weight Loss

I found a new way to lose some extra pounds.

Moving!!

This past weekend, rather than hiring movers, my son and I moved. We were in a 3 level town house.

Can you say “Stairs”?

Anyway turns out moving is a quick way to lose 2.5 pounds in a day. Needless to say I’m happy about the new weight of 244 Lbs. Down from my initial 277.4 (33.4 Lbs and a lot of inches gone!)

Here’s how you can get your energy back and lose weight.
1. Hire Rose Cole
2. Find out where you are through tests
3. set up conditions for success (not dieting…changing the way you eat, what you eat and how you think about your body)
4. Get the right tools. (see the Resources page on this blog)
5. Start taking action today

P.S. I’ll be a guest on Rose Cole’s internet radio show next week. Make sure you get on her list! just click the Wellness With Rose banner on the right side of the blog. :-)

SweeTarts and 31 Lbs

Filed under: Healthy Weight Loss For Men by:

Remember SweeTarts?

I used to enjoy them a lot as a kid. Too bad they were mostly sugar. I’d guess the last time I had some was 5 or 6 years ago, probably on some outing with my sons.

Well. Good News!

I found a substitute!

For the month of may I’ve been eating only SuperFoods (download this PDF from Rose Cole). One item on the list is Goldenberries. Eating goldenberries is like eating SweeTarts without all the sugar and it’s a SuperFood at the same time. They are available in bulk at Whole Foods under the name Gooseberries.

So it turns out eating healthy can make you feel like a kid again.

P.S. Since beginning my work with Rose Cole…which is NOT dieting…(Eating healthy started March 12th)

    I have lost 31 Lbs!

My energy is much higher, I sleep better, and I get more done. Rose can help you design a plan too!

P.P.S. If I can do this you can do this too!

Knee’s

Filed under: Healthy Weight Loss For Men by:

I mentioned in an earlier post that I got a chance to speak with Bill Parravano a.k.a. The Knee Pain Guru.

Bill’s a great guy…and he knows his knee’s! I was impressed with everything he explained about the structure of my knee and what I could expect from his e-book on Knee Pain. Turns out living, functioning and even getting back to a little weight training is possible even without my left medial meniscus and a distressed ACL. (OR having replacement surgery)

Bill’s work focuses on strengthening the tendons in the knees and not relying on the muscle in the legs to do the extra work.

I recommend that if you are using “bad knee’s” as a reason to avoid doing things or you are not doing things you love to do because of your knee’s…that order a copy of Bill’s e-book.

I’ve posted a banner on the right to make it easy for you.

Now…off to do a Jig!

Teeter Totter

Filed under: Healthy Weight Loss For Men by:

Interesting that the image of a teeter totter came to me recently. I saw myself sitting on the end, high in the air…not moving. I wasn’t moving because that part of me was my spirit held “up” by the overweight “physical” me sitting on the other end planted solidly on the ground.

No Balance!

Physically, emotionally, spiritually I’ve been out of balance.

Deciding to change my life and shed the “layers” of excess “weight” has been phenomenal.

You should try it.

In working with Rose Cole, as mentioned in an earlier post, i found out that I was also out of balance with my adrenal glands. “Long Term Chronic Fatigue” was the description. I was below the range on the daily adrenaline chart. For an overachiever being below the lowest line…not good.

Anyway here are two article from Rose on Adrenal Exhaustion.

Isn’t it time to change your life?

27 and counting

Filed under: Healthy Weight Loss For Men by:

Just a quick post to let you know what’s happening!

I had a conversation this week with a knee expert. (you may recall from an earlier post that i have missing parts as a result of a football injury in high school). I’ll be posting about that conversation in a future post.

For now i must tell you I’m getting more compliments and using up more holes in my belt than ever before. I feel really great and have more energy than I’ve had in years.

Mexican food is a problem!

2 times I’ve had business lunches involving mexican food and despite following my eating guidlines have come away weighing two pounds more the following day. Then it takes two days to lose it. Anyway…good lessons for the food diary of what not to do.

People are very encouraging and I’m finding new friends who want to hear what I’ve been doing…After I tell them I refer the to Rose. Her link is on the right!)

So Men. When will you get control of your health? I’m doing it with a bum knee. 27 Lbs lost since starting on March 12th. If I can do it I know you can too.
